Avery Sunshine

Avery Sunshine is an enigmatic musician, singer and actor. The singer combines soul gospel jazz with R&B in a distinct mix. Sunshine has appeared on Broadway and at the Democratic National Convention and in the European clubs and festivals. Sunshine's given name is Denise White. Although she is based in Atlanta however, her roots lie situated in Chester Pennsylvania. There she first began to develop an interest in music, performing and singing in a church. In Atlanta she went to Spellman College where her musical training began on Atlanta's R&B Scene. In 2005 she took on the role of the keyboardist in Tyler Perry's stage production Meet the Browns. Jennifer Holliday, a Grammy and Tony Award winning vocalist who has worked on stage production Dreamgirls during the National Black Arts Festival of Atlanta in 2007, approached her to be the choir leader of the stage production. Sunshine was the subject of national media attention due to her four daily performances during the Democratic National Convention in 2008. Sunshine was chosen to sing as part of Obama's inaugural ceremony in 2009.
